Hair restoration can be one of many methods used to restore natural hair growth, the most successful of which is hair transplant surgery. Hair restoration surgery is one of the most effective and permanent solutions offered for genetic hair loss. Follicles, or follicular units, are taken from healthy hair on the side of the head and implanted onto areas experiencing hair loss. These hairs grow normally for the rest of the patient’s life.
Besides hair restoration surgery, other hair loss options include Propecia®, Rogaine, Laser Hair Therapy, and the newly introduces laser combs. Many hair restoration clinics offer these methods in conjunction to hair transplant surgery. These hair loss alternatives might not have the restorative properties of surgery, but can help make new hair grafts grow into fuller, thicker hairs.
Laser combs, available for purchase at hair restoration clinics, have been FDA approved for at-home use. Recent studies have shown that laser technology is on par with Propecia and Rogaine for restoring hair loss. Laser hair therapy is not as effective as hair restoration surgery, but when used together with follicular unit transplantation the results are second to none.
