At 71, Rocky/Rambo looks fantastic. Sylvester Stallone, the actor who brought these iconic characters to life, isn’t ‘fessing up to recent plastic surgery, but he’s long been an advocate of such work, comparing it to “body work on a car.” If that’s the case, Stallone looks like a well-maintained vintage Cadillac.
Stallone has always taken care of himself. While he’s unlikely to play Rocky ever again, Stallone’s maintained his fighting weight. Plastic surgeons analyzing recent photos of Stallone cite a possible lower facelift, eyelid lift and a virtually definite browlift. Exactly when he had these procedures done is hard to say, but the professionals all agree whoever is responsible did an excellent job. Stallone reportedly attended major events, including the Venice Film Festival, while sporting fresh browlift scars nine years ago. Stallone looks a good 15 to 29 years younger than his chronological age.
Back in 1992, Stallone told People magazine he was born with a crooked mouth and had surgery to correct the defect, leaving him with a small scar. He noted the scar has often been mistaken for a facelift, but there’s no corresponding scar over his right ear – and he didn’t have half his face done. During his birth, the doctor used forceps and ended up severing a nerve. This resulted in partial facial paralysis, including his chin, lips and tongue. His slight speech impediment – the Stallone slur – and tough guy demeanor are due to this nerve damage. It’s not something any plastic surgeon can fix, but why would he want that? These characteristics helped shape Stallone into the huge star he later became.
Stallone freely admits to using Botox. Wags referred to his character in the last Rocky film as “Rocky Balbotox, and claimed he no longer looked like himself. Perhaps he’s using fewer injectables these days, because he does resemble the Stallone of 40 years ago. Gone, however, is the scruffiness of his youth, replaced by an elegance he didn’t have in those days.
Stallone has always been close to his mother, Jackie, a well-known astrologer. Now 95 and never one to shy away from controversy, Jackie Stallone admits she’s had her share of plastic surgery disasters. She doesn’t look like an old woman, necessarily, but she doesn’t look good. His mom has had just about every type of work done imaginable over the years, and perhaps she’ll serve as a cautionary tale to her son to quit while he’s ahead.
