The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) recently released its annual cosmetic statistics for 2009. Findings reveal that although some cosmetic surgery costs have risen since 2008, other plastic surgery costs have gone down! Read on to discover which plastic surgery procedures are costing less these days. 2010 might just be the year that cosmetic enhancement patients can bounce back from their financially driven aesthetic cutbacks and beauty restrictions in '08 and '09!
It's true that some in-demand plastic surgery procedures, like breast reduction, facelifts and rhinoplasty, increased in cost from 2008 to 2009. However, since plastic surgery was down overall in 2009, mostly due to the economic recession, it isn't too surprising that certain treatment costs fluctuated in response. Fortunately, not all plastic surgery costs changed for the worse!
Excepting rhinoplasty, ASAPS' top five plastic surgery procedures of '09 (breast augmentation, liposuction, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty and tummy tucks) all experienced a cost reduction since 2008!
Below is a list of major plastic surgery procedures that showed a reduced cost of more than $100 in 2009. The dollar amount of each procedure's cost decrease from 2008 is also listed (prices reflect national averages and are taken from ASAPS statistics).
The above plastic surgery procedures experienced the greatest cost decrease from 2008 to 2009. However, these other plastic surgery procedures were also priced lower in 2009:
Some of these cosmetic surgery cost reductions don't add up to a lot, but it never hurts to take advantage of price reductions on a treatment or procedure you've already chosen to have. And since these costs reflect national averages, it's quite possible that your local board-certified plastic surgeon performs these procedures for even less than the average cost!
If you are planning on undergoing a major plastic surgery procedure in the near future, why not look into your procedure of choice while costs are low? Plastic surgery prices will likely increase again in the coming year as the economy continues to stabilize.
If plastic surgery costs are a large concern for you, in spite of current price reductions, it may help to meet with a plastic surgeon for a pre-surgical consultation appointment. During your consultation, you will learn more about specific cosmetic pricing structures, and can even apply for plastic surgery patient financing!
