Wrinkles on the face are the result of our muscles repeatedly contracting whenever we express emotion (smiling, frowning, etc.). Ideal Candidates: BOTOX® Cosmetic is not highly effective for patients who are beyond the stages of premature aging. What are the Side Effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic?
The side effects of BOTOX® are generally not serious.  It is possible to experience a mild headache after the injections, and you may experience light bruising around the injection site, but this is temporary and will usually disappear in 3-7 days.

Providers need to be careful when administering BOTOX® around the mouth as it relaxes facial muscles and can cause numbness and decreased control, resulting in drooling or slurred speech.  This is not to say that these areas can't be treated, but every provider is different, and some choose to not use BOTOX® around the mouth. You will need to check the qualifications of your provider before going through with treatment.

How Long do BOTOX® Cosmetic results last?
Usually 3-6 months. Can last up to 8, depending on the individual.

Many people wonder what happens when the botulism toxin begins to wear off.  After about 8 months, the wrinkles will eventually reappear; however, they will often be less severe than before treatment.  You will find (and clinical studies will attest) that after several BOTOX® treatments, you will require follow up treatments less often.

What is the recovery time for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
There is no recovery time necessary with BOTOX® treatments.  You will be able to perform all of your normal duties the same day as your injection.  If you do experience light bruising, it can easily be concealed with makeup (men, you're not as lucky, but you can say it is a battle wound!).

If you experience a headache, it can be treated with an over-the-counter pain reliever.

Will my insurance company cover BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Since BOTOX® is considered a cosmetic treatment, insurance usually does not apply.  However, many people are using BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraine headaches.  You may want to contact your healthcare provider to determine if treatment would be covered for these conditions.
