Another year has come to an end, and that means it's time to look at the most popular procedures in the world of cosmetic enhancement. With plastic surgery currently enjoying something of a renaissance, it's interesting to see which procedures patients flocked to and which fads quickly fell away. So what treatments did plastic surgeons perform the most in 2017? Take a look below to find out.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the old favorites are still at the top of the list when it comes to surgical procedures. According to plastic surgeons, the most requested procedures were breast augmentations, followed by rhinoplasties, tummy tucks and liposuction, all of which have been incredibly popular options for decades.
There were, however, a couple of new entries to the list with vaginal rejuvenation and buttocks enhancements coming in at five and six respectively. Believe it or not, these procedures were virtually unheard of only a few years ago, but they've been climbing the charts over the last couple of years. Rounding out the rest of the list were facelifts, eyelid surgeries, and breast reduction surgeries.
No matter how popular surgical procedures get, they are completely dwarfed by the overwhelming popularity of nonsurgical options. Since these procedures are cheaper and often need to be done repeatedly, they keep patients coming back again and again. According to cosmetic surgeons, fat reduction was the name of the game this year, with non-surgical options like Coolsculpting and SculpSure taking the crown. But 2017 wasn't just about taking fat away, as dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm, which are used to add plumpness in just the right places, came in second. Next were hair restoration procedures, such as transplants or laser therapy, as more and more people turned to plastic surgery to solve their hair loss problems.
One of the bigger surprises on the list was Botox. After enjoying several years at or near the top of the list, the toxin injection was finally overtaken thanks to the staggering popularity of non-surgical fat removal options and dermal fillers. Rounding out the rest of the most popular non-surgical treatments were laser resurfacing, scar removal, acne treatments, chemical peels and hair removal.
So what does this list tell us about the year to come? If history is any indication, all of these treatments will continue to be popular in 2018. And more importantly, the practice of cosmetic enhancement will likely gain in popularity once again. Year over year, plastic surgeons have seen their business more than double in the last decade, and all signs indicate that upward trend is likely to continue.
