Crimes of Fake Miami Plastic Surgeon Prove Importance of Choosing Board-Certified Doctors
by Marisa Amorasak
Nearly 30 people have come forward to reveal that they were the victims of a faux plastic surgeon from the Miami area. According to local news reports, the “doctor” promised her victims curvier, more feminine figures using popular injectable fillers and routine implants. Instead, the patients were injected with hardware supplies like super glue and discount tire sealant in a makeshift plastic surgery facility. Many of the victims have been left disfigured and with serious health problems. This story, and the many others like it, highlights the importance of choosing a well qualified plastic surgeon.
Allegedly, Oneal Ron Morris (pictured) ran the black market business out of her Miami apartment. As a transgender woman, Morris preyed on other transgender patients who sought permanent feminine curves. Morris and one accomplice are currently facing felony charges from two women who nearly died after having procedures performed by Morris. Since neither Morris nor her accomplice has a medical license to perform cosmetic procedures, they’ll likely face some serious jail time.
And rightfully so— Morris has put these people’s lives at a major risk. She attempted a number of procedures that are popular among women trying to enhance their figure, including Brazilian butt lifts, breast implants, and cheek implants. It’s impossible that Morris had the tools necessary to carry out procedures that were hygienic, safe, or aesthetically successful. Only medical professionals can purchase the materials that are used in cosmetic surgery, and use them in the correct way.
Choosing a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon
Morris is just one of many people around the country who practice cosmetic surgery illegally. The attractive features of seeing an under the radar “doctor” (it’s cheaper, they may be someone you know, and they may be willing to perform surgeries legitimate doctors won’t) pale in comparison to the risks involved with such surgeries. It’s vital to weed out faux plastic surgeons like Morris not only for better aesthetic results, but also for your safety.
Not just anyone can perform plastic surgery. Look for a plastic surgeon that is certified by the Board of Plastic Surgery—that means that they’ve undergone extensive specialty training, had an additional four years of school, and have passed a rigorous exam. To avoid life-threatening mishaps like these, browse our network of plastic surgeons in your area. Then, contact us to set up a consultation with them. During the consultation, you’ll be able to learn the ins and outs of the procedure: what type of material will be used, the exact qualifications of your doctor, and much more. Contact us today!
