A report published earlier this year by the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery (ACPS) claims that there is has been steady rise of Hispanics seeking cosmetic surgeries. Dr. Rolando, an active member of the Aesthetic Center for Plastic Surgery, has made the claim.
The statement is made in support of another more critical report issued by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. This report states that plastic and cosmetic surgery is on the rise for every ethnic group, with the notable exception of whites. Furthermore, the new report provides data concluding that the largest increase is among Hispanics with a whopping 18 percent increase across the country.
Dr. Rolando, in his statement, agrees with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons report. “I have noticed an increase in the number of Hispanics that come in for plastic surgery,” he confirmed. “Many of them are looking for minor changes, such as lip augmentation. I think it is a sign that the Hispanic community is economically stronger than most expected.”
What explains this unprecedented rise in the application of plastic surgery by assorted ethnicities? The American Society of Plastic Surgeons seems to insinuate that the marginalized ethnicities may go under the knife to as a statement of social status, especially in an economical sense. The new report by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons data for the report occurred after the most recent economic downturn and seems to indicate certain ethnicities; in particular the Hispanic community may not have suffered from the economic crisis to the same degree.
Dr. Rolando agrees. “The Houston economy has weathered the national recession better than the rest of the nation. The Hispanic ethnicity is the dominant ethnicity in Houston, and this is reflected in my practice. I have seen a steady increase in Hispanics seeking nonsurgical cosmetic surgery. Facial injectables, such as fillers and toxins, are the most common nonsurgical procedures requested.”
