These days there’s almost no body part that can’t be tucked, folded, made bigger, made smaller, or even frozen. The most searched for plastic surgery types by state show some interesting numbers that could be interpreted in many ways.
Which procedure leads the pack? Liposuction, with a whopping 15 states. The least searched for plastic surgery procedure on the list? Vaginal rejuvenation, with only one state searching for that more than any other- North Dakota.
The rest of the most commonly searched-for procedures fall somewhere between liposuction and vaginal rejuvenation, with some interesting patterns in their distribution. These procedures include breast implants, penis enlargement, laser hair removal, lip injections, and eyelid surgery.
You may notice that the same procedures are often grouped together, geographically. Texas to North Carolina might be called “The Liposuction Belt” while Washington to Utah could be called “The Breast Implant Triangle”. While there’s no clear reason why this might be, perhaps the higher than average level of obesity in The Liposuction Belt has something to do with it. And while it makes sense that the movie industry in California would result in lots of eager actresses searching for breast implants, it’s not clear why that would be the case in The Implant Belt. Maybe Montana is secretly the source for most of the world’s swimsuit models?
Of course, searching for info on procedures does not necessarily mean that people are actually having said procedures, but it would make sense that it’s the case. If people in Alaska search for sweaters, for example, they probably need a sweater. If people in Florida are searching for swimsuits, they probably need one. Actually, if they’re in Florida, they definitely do.
Take a look at the infographic and see what you think. Do you think the data breakdown of plastic surgery procedures by state point to any obvious reasoning or trends?
