Our lifestyles and environments can do a number on our faces. Sun exposure, smoking, diet and age can alter our facial appearance, causing unwanted droopiness and sagging skin. If you’ve been looking to give your face a youthful boost, but are wary of traditional plastic surgery, the feather lift, or thread lift, may be just the solution. Developed in Russia, the feather lift is a non-surgical procedure that uses special sutures or “Aptos threads” inserted below the skin with a needle. The Aptos threads are made of polypropylene and have bilateral barbs that hook into sagging tissues below the skin, and lift them, giving your cheeks, brow or jaw line a firmer, younger appearance. The procedure is called a feather lift because of the shape of the sutures, which anchor into the soft tissue of the skin and lift it. The Aptos threads can be pulled in any direction, and can also be reversed.
Many individuals have found this procedure a welcome alternative to facelift surgery. Some believe that the feather lift even creates more natural-looking results. Unlike traditional surgery, there are no scars, the level of discomfort is significantly diminished, the procedure is low-risk, and recovery times are quite quick. The procedure is performed with local anesthetic in your doctor’s office, and typically takes only 30-60 minutes to complete. The feather lift has not typically been successful for patients with considerable excess skin, since the feather lift does not actually remove any skin.
If you think that a feather lift sounds like a welcome alternative to surgery, there’s no better person to speak with about the procedure than a licensed skin care professional. We encourage you to schedule a consultation with one of our experienced facial surgery experts. He or she will discuss your aesthetic goals and help you decide whether a feather lift might be the best choice for you.
