Who consults the consultant? Justin Jedlica, a certified plastic surgery consultant, had his first cosmetic surgery when he was 18. Since then Jedlica has undergone over a staggering 127 additional plastic surgeries to help achieve his look. Learning from experience, Jedlica now consults others on plastic surgery.
Jedlica first began researching for doctors when he was just 17 years old. In a one-on-one chat with Huff Post Live, Jedlica answered questions concerning his life and career in extreme plastic surgery. According to Jedlica, the decision to first get plastic surgery was anything but hurried. He went to three separate consultations with three separate doctors before settling on the one he ultimately preferred.
Jedlica was impressed by his doctor, who, in Jedlica’s own words, “Really wanted to spend a lot of time with previous to the surgery and said ‘I’m going to meet with you a minimum of three times before we actually go ahead with this procedure ‘cause I want to make sure I know what I am doing is what you’re asking for.” This dedication of time for the consultation really put Jedlica at ease about the entire procedure.
Still, it wasn’t easy for Justin Jedlica. His parents apparently wouldn’t sign off to allow their 17-year-old son to obtain the surgery so Jedlica dutifully waited until after he was 18, and of legal consult, to officially go under the knife and receive his first nose job.
Jedlica admits his early exposure to plastic surgery is not for everyone. “At that age it’s hard because you’re coming into your own and you’re trying figure out ‘who am I?’ and it’s hard to come into an acceptance of who you are and feel good about yourself,” says Jedlica. For Jedlica, he felt his looks held him back “It made me uncomfortable…It really was something I thought about. I was conscious of it all the time, so the idea of fixing it was something he really probably had on my brain from the time I was 13 or 14.”
In his video interview Jedlica says that seeing the preponderance of plastic procedures on movies stars also convinced him to follow his cosmetic makeover ambitions, however costly. “It was something that for me was important, so I was always very frugal. I didn't do a lot of things my friends did. They wanted to go buy their cars and buy their stereo systems and spend their money on their clothes. Instead, I was drawn towards surgery.”
Still nothing is ever worth pursuing is easy and despite the successful first surgery, it did not stop Jedlica from seeking out additional procedures or of suffering surgical setbacks.
“It was also difficult to get doctors on the same page as me being a young male looking for something that was maybe a bit more feminine and definitely a bit more over-stylized…I think as a female, it's a little more socially accepted to have plastic surgery.”
Recognizing the challenges he faced, Jedlica became a plastic surgery consultant to help pair patients with specialists to help achieve optimal results the first time around, as opposed to the 128th time around.
