A cosmetic treatments clinic out of Miami, Florida has announced that the facility will begun accepting “bitcoin” as a form of payment for rendered services.
The clinic, Vanity Cosmetic Surgery, established in its specialization in plastic or reconstructive treatments, is now permitting patients to pay for procedures in bitcoin. What exactly is bitcoin you may ask? Bitcoin is a distributed, peer-to-peer digital currency that functions without the intermediation of any central authority.
In an interview by CoinDesk, the so-called Voice of Digital Currency, Carlos Yela, advertising and PR manager for the clinic has proudly announced that Vanity Cosmetic Surgery is “the only cosmetic medical center to officially accept bitcoin in the world as a valid form of payment.”
Perhaps surprising to some, this was no flippant idea. Yela was appointed to be in charge of spearheading the medical centers’ online presence and felt that bitcoin was not only a logical solution but a commercially viable one as well. According to Yela, “It was a project I presented to our managing staff, as part of our web expansion strategy, we are always looking for ways to access new niches and circles, and bitcoin is an excellent opportunity for us to accomplish this.”
Believe it or not, there are actually benefits to Vanity Medical Center accepting bitcoin. As a currency, bitcoin provides worldwide ubiquity. Its electronic nature gives international customers an easy and relatively uncomplicated method for paying for the services of the clinics.
Attracting clients from all over the world, Vanity Cosmetic Surgery is now offering the “complete recovery program.” Under this plan, patients receive treatment beyond their cosmetic treatment, including transport, accommodation, post treatment therapy and nutrition. Upon payment of bitcoin, clients are assured the utmost care from the clinic’s staff of nurses and doctors.
Vela is optimistic about bitcoin’s potential impact on the plastic surgery industry. “We think that times are changing and we can’t stay away from it, one of these changes is how people interact with each other and with their health providers, we see this as we get more patients from out of state and from other countries every day.”
Vanity Cosmetic Surgery has already set up a page for interested costumers who are seeking additional information on payment options with bitcoin. “The potential is clear, bitcoin is a currency that knows no boundaries, that means for any person in Australia, or Siberia or maybe down the street, who currently use bitcoin that they will have instant access to our services without the headache of exchange fees.”
