When you think of cosmetic enhancement, you might think of young 20- and 30-somethings doing small touch-ups on their appearance to maintain their youthful looks. And while that stereotype may still be true overall, the fact is that in recent years more and more middle-aged men and women have been undergoing cosmetic enhancement. According to recent polls, nearly 20% of men and almost 50% of women say that they would consider getting plastic surgery in order to look younger. That's a lot of people eager to go under the knife. But why are they willing to do it and what procedures do they want to have done?

Conforming to Social Standards

How many times have you heard that 40 is the new 50? And that 50 is the new 60? And so on and so on. Well, as trite as those sayings may be, they are by and large true. Nowadays, people are living active and healthier lifestyles for longer than ever before. As a part of that trend, both men and women feel compelled to maintain their physical appearances for as long as possible and are turning to cosmetic enhancement as a way to accomplish that.

Staying in the Workforce

Whether it's fair or not, there are certain careers where "the right look" is absolutely necessary. For salespeople, realtors and even lawyers, having a pleasing or friendly appearance can make the different between success and failure. So in order to stay in the workforce longer, an increasing number of women and men are turning to cosmetic enhancements, and a simple procedure or two can add years to the end of a career.
